Section 12 Climbing Facilities in TIA-222-GWhat is the strength capacity of a 5/8" step bolt/peg and how is it measured?

The minimal nominal strength required is 250 lb per Section 12.4. Note that a 1.5 load factor must be applied to the 250 lb and that the load must be applied at the worst-case location, which is in the normal direction at the end of the step bolt. Additionally, the tensile root area of the step bolt must be used to determine the section modulus. Refer to Note 2 at the end of Section 12.4.
